Popular streaming platform Netflix has decided to stop password sharing in India. In a recent announcement through a blog post, it unveiled its policy on password-sharing in India. Netflix said it will email customers who share passwords outside of their homes, reminding them that Netflix is only available for use by account holders and people living in their homes. Customers can still enjoy numerous features of this streaming platform, such as transferring profiles and managing access and devices.
In May, the streaming giant imposed restrictions on password-sharing practices in several countries, including major markets such as the US, France and the UK. Now Netflix has set its sights on India.
In the blog post, Netflix acknowledged that people have different preferences when it comes to entertainment.

“That’s why we continue to invest heavily in a wide variety of new films and TV shows — so whatever your taste, mood or language, and whoever you’re watching with, there’s always something satisfying to watch on Netflix.” Netflix wrote the streaming platform while announcing the steps they are taking to stop password sharing.
In the post, Netflix also explained its feature called ‘Transfer Profile’. With this feature, if someone outside of your family is using your Netflix profile, you have the option to transfer that profile to a new subscription. However, payment from the new member is required to continue viewing from that account.
You can manage your access to Netflix account. You can review which devices have access to your account. As the profile owner, you’ll have the freedom to sign out any devices you shouldn’t have access to. For added security, you can also change your password.
The decision sparked numerous reactions on Twitter. One user claimed that this would be a big blow to “entrepreneurs” in India.

Following the crackdown on Netflix password sharing in the US, the streaming platform has reportedly added 5.9 million subscribers and reached 238.5 million worldwide, according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter. It also saw a limited number of account cancellations due to this move.
