Spectrum Auction News: Preparations for new spectrum auctions have intensified for the telecom industry. The Department of Telecom (DoT) will approach the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) this week to auction a set of spectrum bands with permits expiring in 2024 along with radio waves. If reports are to be believed, the telecom department may conduct the auction in the March quarter of the current financial year.

DoT will send the terms of auction to TRAI

The Department of Telecom will shortly send the terms and conditions to TRAI for the auction of 37 GHz band and radio waves of telecom licenses coming up for renewal in 2024. As reported by Bhasha, the Department of Telecom is expected to soon recommend guidelines for the auction of satellite communication spectrum, so that it can be included in the proposed auction for the March quarter.

Place order soon for satellite communication spectrum

In the context of satellite communication spectrum, auctions of spectrum in the 600 MHz band may include frequencies not sold in the 2022 auction. The government offered spectrum in 10 bands, but no bids came in for airwaves in 600 MHz, 800 MHz. About two-thirds of bids were for the 5G band (3300 MHz and 26 GHz), while more than a quarter of demand came in the 700 MHz band.
