Flipkart: We all use many electric devices in our homes. Like TV, fridge, cooler, washing machine etc. Many times these devices get damaged due to continuous use. Some people get the device rectified in this situation, then buy something new and throw the old one or give it to the garbageman. If you have an old broken device in your house, in which you do not want to spend money, now you can get a discount on online orders instead. Actually, e-commerce website Flipkart has started a new exchange program in which the company is giving a chance to replace non-functional electronic items. That is, on giving such items, the company will give you some discount in your order.

This is the purpose behind the program

Flipkart has started this program so that people can get rid of their dead devices and reduce e-waste. To dispose of the dead device, the company has negotiated with vendors who will dispose of the device properly. The company will decide the value of your old device after its inspection and accordingly you will get a discount on your order.

If the device can be fixed, the company will fix it, otherwise it will be recycled. If both these are not possible then the company will send it for disposal. Adarsh Menon, Senior Vice President and Head of New Business, Flipkart said that India is the third largest e-waste generator in the world (3.2 million tonnes in 2019). According to the MEITY policy paper, only 10 per cent of the waste is collected for recycling which is very low. We need to work more in this direction so that e-waste can be disposed less and properly.

Adarsh Menon further said that the company’s new exchange program will help people financially in switching from old devices to new devices and it will also prove to be effective in saving the environment.
