Nitin Gadkari news: India has overtaken China by adding 1.45 lakh km of road network since 2014 to become the second largest road network in the world. After America, India ranks second in the world in terms of road network. Union Roads and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said that under the Modi government’s development work in the last nine years, India’s road network has grown by 59 percent to become the second largest in the world after America.
So many roads have been built in nine years
Gadkari said that currently the country’s road network is about 1,45,240 km while it was only 91,287 km in the fiscal year 2013-14. Thus, the country’s road network has seen a high growth of 59 percent in the last nine years. In a press conference organized on nine years of Modi government’s achievements, he said that today India’s road network has reached the second place in the world after America. During this period India set seven world records in road construction.
Toll revenue has also increased
Gadkari said the revenue from tolls has increased from Rs 4,770 crore to Rs 41,342 crore in the last nine years. He said the government aims to reach toll revenue of Rs 1.30 lakh crore by 2030. According to a PTI-Bhasha report, he said that the use of the FASTag system for toll collection has reduced the waiting time of vehicles at the toll plaza to 47 seconds. He said, the government is taking some more steps to bring this time within 30 seconds.
