6G Technology: While Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio are busy rolling out 5G networks across the country, preparations for the next-generation communication technology are also in full swing. Telecom and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnab said India should aim to achieve a 10 percent share in global 6G patents by 2030. Inaugurating the India 6G Alliance, Vaishnav said that India has now become an exporter of telecom technology and it already has around 200 patents related to 6G technology. We should aim to take India’s 6G patent share to at least 10 percent by 2029 or 2030, the telecom minister said.
India sets stage for 6G tie-up
India contributed to the 5G technology development program for the first time and recently the United Nations agency International Telecommunication Union (ITU) included India in the 6G framework. To accelerate the ongoing efforts in this direction, India 6G Alliance platform has been prepared. Vaishnav said the agreement will encourage more institutes and organizations working in the country to work together to file more patent applications for 6G technology. He said that earlier increasing foreign direct investment (FDI) in the telecom sector was a challenge, but it has increased to $24 billion in the last nine years from 2014 to 2023. He said that India, which used to be an importer of technology, has now become an exporter. Now many countries are looking to import telecom equipment to India.
The first chip fully designed and manufactured in India is coming soon
Ashwini Vaishnav said that Indian telecom equipment manufacturers have also started exporting to America. He said, within the next two-three years, the first fully designed and manufactured chip should also come in India. As reported by Bhasha, he said that the foundation stone for American company Micron’s proposed chip plant in Gujarat is expected to be completed in the next 40-45 days. He expected the first chips to roll out of the plant in about a year and a half.
