New Delhi: Apple is reportedly no longer planning to launch the fourth-generation iPhone SE in 2024. In a research note, Barclays analysts Blaine Curtis and Tom O’Malley said the device was expected to have an Apple-designed 5G modem, but the plan appears to be delayed, MacRumors reported.
Apple has apparently been working on its own modem since at least 2018, and in 2019, bought the entirety of Intel’s smartphone modem division to support those efforts. (Also Read: ‘Par Ho To Aisa’: A Story Of Co-Founders Building Their Dream Project)
However, analysts believe that Qualcomm will continue to be Apple’s modem supplier for both the iPhone SE and iPhone 16 series until next year, as it seems that Apple’s modem is not yet ready, according to the report. In February, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the next iPhone SE will be similar to the regular iPhone 14, with a 6.1-inch OLED display, Face ID and flat corners.
However, Apple’s plans for the smartphone may change in the future as the new iPhone SE is apparently delayed. According to Kuo and several other sources, the new iPhone SE won’t be released until at least 2025, so the current model seems like a safe buy for now, the report said.
Meanwhile, Apple’s latest patent application suggests that the company may be working on a rollable or scrollable iPhone.
The tech giant has filed a patent for a device with a rollable or scrollable display, indicating that future products such as iPhones, iPads, televisions, desktop displays and car dashboards could feature this technology, reports Gizmochina.
The patent application, which builds on Apple’s 2014 search for an expandable display, was recently published by the US Patent and Trademark Office. The invention refers to a device with a display that can be changed into a rolled-up state for storage and an unrolled state for viewing.
