The Matter Threads app, which has gained more than 10 million users, is now raising concerns about its data practices. The app is only accessible through an Instagram account and does not have the ability to delete account data without deleting the user’s Instagram account. This limitation has caused concern among users who want to remove their thread data and profiles. According to the platform’s FAQ page, users can delete individual posts but must delete their entire Instagram account to delete their thread data and profile. Temporary deactivation is the only option available for thread profiles, and it is not possible to press the undo button to delete the profile without affecting the Instagram account.
Deactivating a thread profile will not affect the associated Instagram account, but deactivating an Instagram account will automatically deactivate the linked thread profile.
Another thing is that deactivating a thread profile once a week is the only way to keep yourself away from the app. Mark Zuckerberg seems determined to make it difficult for users to leave easily. Deactivating a profile makes posts and interactions with other users’ posts temporarily invisible until the account is reactivated. However, deactivating a thread profile will not delete thread data or affect the Instagram account.

The Thread app uses various Instagram data including login information, account ID, name, username, profile picture, bio, links, followers, followed accounts, age and account status related to intellectual property violations and community guidelines violations.
Since it is automatically linked to the Instagram account you use to login, data from your Instagram account is used for multiple purposes. According to Meta’s privacy policy, engagement data is used to import your profile information into threads and customize your feed to align with your preferences. Additionally, information collected from threads can be used to personalize and improve your overall Instagram experience.
To disable thread profiles, users need to follow these steps as independent deletion is not available:
Go to profile.
Tap the “double dash” icon in the top right corner of the display profile picture to access the options.
Select Account, then tap Deactivate Profile.
Finally, tap Disable Thread Profile and confirm the action.
