New Delhi: The future of cyberspace requires all countries to work together to keep it safe and secure and the Internet is an area where borders are not recognized, Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar said on Thursday.

Addressing the G20 conference on ‘Crime and Security in the Age of NFT, AI and Metaverse’ in Gurugram, he said that while technology has shown its power to bring good, it has also become a force for user harm, toxicity, misinformation. , and crime.

“The Internet is an area where borders are not recognized because the victim is in one jurisdiction, the crime in another and the perpetrator in a third,” the minister told the gathering.

“It is clear that the challenges of user harm, toxicity and crime on the Internet require different responses from law enforcement agencies and governments around the world,” added Chandrasekhar.

The two-day G20 summit is attended by more than 900 dignitaries from G20 countries, as well as representatives of specially invited countries, international organizations, technology leaders and experts to discuss ways to protect the digital space from cyber threats.

Chandrasekhar said that “we must understand that the future of cyberspace requires all countries to work together to keep it safe and secure”.

“We must work in partnership not just to investigate, but to develop frameworks, regulatory tools and protocols, and address the growing challenges and threats to the security of digital citizens around the world,” he stressed.
