Previous governments have failed to build a semiconductor ecosystem in the country, said IT Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar.

Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Tuesday said that important sectors like semiconductors were either neglected by the previous governments or they failed to take advantage of the opportunities in this area. The Minister of State for Information Technology was speaking to reporters at the inauguration of the Semicon India 2023 exhibition here. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Bhai Patel inaugurated the exhibition. On this occasion, the Union Minister gave information about the Semicon India 2023 Summit to be held in Gandhinagar. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the three-day conference on July 28.

The Union Minister said that for 70 years, various countries of the world have been making progress in the field of semiconductors and electronics, but our country has either failed in this field or we have ignored it. The State Minister said that various governments have neglected or failed in this very important sector in various ways. He said that such efforts have been made for the first time in the history of independent India, which has led to so much progress in the last 15 months, which was not seen in the last 70 years.

Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajeev Chandrasekhar said Semicon India is an important event in our country’s annual technology calendar. 15 months ago in 2022, India’s first SemiCon India event was held in Bangalore. In December 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi set a target for the country to make India a semiconductor nation.

The Union Minister said that as per the Prime Minister’s vision, the first Roadshow of Future Design was held here even before Semicon India. This semiconductor ecosystem, he said, is trying to establish design innovation, research, talent, packaging and fabs and their associated supply chain.

Appreciating the Gujarat government’s partnership in this effort to build a semiconductor ecosystem, the Union Minister said that students and youth will get a chance to learn a lot from the exhibition. Organizations like Micron, Applied Materials, Lam Research, Intel apart from IIT Mumbai, IISC Bangalore participated in the exhibition.
