SIM Card Dealer Police Verification Is Now Necessary, The Provision Of Giving Connection In Bulk Is Now Closed

To prevent fraud or forgery, the government has made police verification of sim card dealer necessary and the provision of giving connections in bulk has now been discontinued. Union Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave this information on Thursday. The news of wrong use of SIM card keeps coming to the fore. The minister said that WhatsApp itself has blocked around 66,000 accounts which were involved in fraudulent activities.

 

Dealer fined Rs 10 lakh

 

According to PTI news, Vaishnav said that the government has closed 52 lakh mobile connections. Along with this, the names of 67,000 sim card dealers have been put in the blacklist. This year, since May 2023, 300 FIRs have been registered against SIM card dealers (police verification of sim card dealer). He said that now we have made police verification of the SIM card dealer necessary to prevent fraud. A fine of Rs 10 lakh will be imposed on the dealer who violates the rules.

The Union Minister, however, also said that there are 10 lakh SIM card dealers and they will be given enough time for police verification. The Department of Telecom has also stopped the service of giving connections in bulk. The government will now be introducing a new concept of business connections. According to PTI news, Vaishnav said that apart from this, KYC (Know Your Customer) of businesses and KYC of the person taking the SIM will also be done. KYC helps in authenticating the identity and address of an institution or investor.
