New Delhi: After Mahindra & Mahindra supplied the Scorpio Classic to the Indian Army, Toyota Kirloskar Motors has supplied the Hilux pick-up truck. Vehicle maker Toyota Kirloskar Motor has announced that it has handed over a fleet of Toyota Hilux to the Indian Army. The Indian Army’s Northern Command underwent a comprehensive and rigorous evaluation of the Hilux for over 2 months. The pick-up truck was tested in extreme weather and rough terrain from altitudes up to 13,000 feet to sub-zero temperatures.

Hilux has become an icon worldwide. It is known for its reliability and off-road capabilities. Indian Army vehicles must have these two things. Powering the Hilux is a 2.8-litre engine, a four-cylinder diesel engine, which produces 201bhp of maximum power and a peak torque output of 420 Nm in manual gearbox and 500 Nm in automatic transmission. Both transmissions are 6-speed units and a 4×4 system is available as standard.
Two variants of the Hilux
Hilux comes in two variants STD and High. The STD is offered only with a manual gearbox, while the higher variants get a manual gearbox as well as an automatic transmission. Hilux prices start at Rs 30.40 lakh and go up to Rs 37.90 lakh Both are priced ex-showroom.
