Skoda Slavia: We tell you that Slavia and Virtus look almost identical. That’s why both of them drive the same. The Volkswagen Group’s 1.5 TSI engine has slightly less horsepower than the Hyundai unit, but many consider it a more exciting powerplant. It depends on how it releases its power in the mid-range to deliver a satisfying punch. Its top end is also freer. The engine will rev to 6,200rpm and sounds great while doing all this. This pair changes direction with greater balance and allows you to hold high speeds with more confidence. Body movements are well controlled despite having an SUV-like ground clearance of 179mm.

The Virtus and Slavia also feel more secure under hard braking. However, it gets discs on all four wheels and has a short stopping distance. Where others have clear edges, there are improvements. It does a good job of isolating you from the outside world, and the comfortable low-speed ride helps with that too. However, go fast over a pothole and you’ll hear an otherwise loud suspension squeal. Virtus and Slavia are comfortable in their own right, but once you get to Varna, you’ll pay more attention to the road below you.


It is the Hyundai Verna itself, which attracts the most attention. However, not always for the right reasons. Some like the red style, some don’t. However, Fastback does more than that. The flat front end with its light stripes and gaping grille is out of sync with the high deck boot. The clean-cut Slavia and Virtus look more conventional and both hold their respective brand identities very firmly, but don’t you think Skoda could have been a bit bolder with the 1.5 TSI? It looks exactly like the smaller 1.0 TSI. A Slavia Monte Carlo will immediately enhance your wonder. Volkswagen made more of an effort in this regard with the 1.5 TSI sold in GT form. Also, now if you use the Virtus and Slavia, the seats are too high and make a clunking sound when the doors close. There is also a power within. Overall its quality is not better than Volkswagen and Skoda. Both share many components, including larger front seats, but different dashboards help give personality. This is the Virtus GT, which puts you in a sporty mindset with its red theme, which includes a red outline for the dashboard. The Slavia’s interiors are classy, ​​but there’s still nothing to tell you it’s a high-powered model.


Talking about features, you will get ample benefits in all three cars. Digital dials, smooth touchscreen, ventilated front seats, leatherette upholstery and single-pane sunroof are part of the package on all three models. The Verna is ahead of its rivals with additional features like partial power adjustment for the driver’s seat, heated front seats (very useful on cold days), adjustable ambient lighting and an electronic parking brake. In comparison, the climate control touch panels of the Slavia and Virtus are not easy to use. The Verna Bose sound system is good, but on par with the Skoda sound system for deepest sound.


In terms of safety features, these cars have six airbags, ABS, electronic stability control and ISOFIX child seat mounts. However, all three comply with the updated Indian crash test norms. Yet they go above and beyond conventional regulatory requirements in several ways. Slavia and Virtus have 5-star scores in Global NCAP’s safety criteria. The Verna is yet to undergo the global NCAP test, but it is the only one with the radar and camera-based updated driver assistance system, or ADAS, which can help prevent accidents. The rear seats of the three cars are much better in terms of space and comfort. It is so spacious that even a six-foot man can comfortably sit in it and stretch his legs.
